The Southwest Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives was originally formed in 1947 as the California Association of Airport Executives (CAAE), the organization has expanded over the years and in 1979 became the Southwest Chapter of the nationwide American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE). The Chapter's membership includes airport representatives primarily from the states of California, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah. Since its founding, the purpose of the organization has been to bring together all persons representing public use airports as well as persons interested in and working for the benefit of aviation.

The Advanced ASOS School is designed for individuals who have either attended a Basic ASOS School or have at least three years of experience in airport operations. The school uses fewer prepared presentations and more problem-solving workshops, role-playing scenarios and breakout groups so that all attendees can actively participate in the proceedings. Best management practices and lessons learned by participating airports are encouraged to be discussed during the breakout sessions.

Member Spotlight

Joined AAAE: 1998

Industry Mentor: I have so many, but three stand out: Lori Beckman, A.A.E., Aviation Security Consulting; Danette Bewley, A.A.E., Tucson Aviation Authority; Scott Brockman, A.A.E., Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority

What has being involved in AAAE meant to your career? My career would not have happened without the AAAE. From the first day I stepped foot on my first airport job, I knew I wanted to be an A.A.E.! It was the most challenging and rewarding experience of my career to this point. It has allowed me to give back and serve on the Board of Examiners. I will do what ever is necessary to promote the AAAE and its programs for its members. I'm looking forward to promoting the AAAE to the next generation of airport leaders. The best is yet to come!
