Committee General Information

The Operations, Safety, Planning and Emergency Management (OSPEM) Committee is open to all AAAE members who wish to join and engage with their aviation colleagues regarding policy relevant to these topic areas.  The committee is chaired by Lawrence Krauter, of Spokane International Airport and vice-chaired by Vincent Cardillo of the Massachusetts Port Authority, Lana Van Marter of the Houston Airport System and John Kinney of the Aspen-Pitkin County Airport.  Justin Towles of the AAAE staff acts as the primary staff liaison of this committee.

The full committee meets in person twice per year, at the AAAE Annual Conference in the Spring and at the F. Russell Hoyt National Airports Conference in the Fall.  Conference calls are held in opposite quarters to update the committee membership on recent policy changes, proposed legislation and any other relevant developments in the industry.  Each of the OSPEM Working Groups also provide updates on their recent activities at each meeting or call.

All members of the OSPEM Committee are highly encouraged to join one or more of the committee’s working groups.  The operation of each working group varies, but they typically meet via teleconference either monthly or quarterly.  Some of the working groups are very active year-round, while others take on issues and projects as they arise.  In either case, having these organized collections of subject matter experts provides both the committee and AAAE an invaluable resource as we are confronted with specific policy issues.  Any AAAE member can join the OSPEM Committee online through your membership account and working groups can be joined by emailing Justin Towles of the AAAE staff.
