Airport Managers, Operations, and Maintenance staff are often faced with the difficult task of using limited funds to address a backlog of pavement maintenance and rehabilitation needs. Their challenge is to set priorities, develop schedules, allocate resources, and budget for pavement maintenance and rehabilitation, all within a constrained operational setting. To do this properly, they need to understand their airport's pavements, recognize when pavements are beginning to deteriorate, make informed short-term and long-term decisions about maintenance, be knowledgeable about repair techniques, and be able to address special considerations related to their airport's operating environment.
The Airport Pavement Maintenance and Evaluation Workshop, presented by the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE)
, Applied Pavement Technology, Inc.
, and Delta Airports Consultants, Inc.
, is coming home to AAAE's headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia from September 26-27, 2017! This workshop will provide information needed to establish an effective airport pavement management and maintenance program. The Workshop sessions will help attendees understand the performance of pavements, how to evaluate them, the characteristics of a good pavement management and maintenance program, and current repair techniques used in the industry. The Workshop will help airport officials make informed decisions about the maintenance of their pavements and address special considerations such as minimizing impacts on users, maximizing airport safety, and adapting to their local operating environments.
Formal presentations, interactive discussions, and hands-on workshops will cover the following topics:
- Performance of pavements and importance of pavement maintenance
- Evaluation of pavements and identification of types of distress
- Techniques for repairing Hot-Mix Asphalt and Portland Cement Concrete pavements
- Pavement management and maintenance programs
- Airport pavement maintenance - case studies
- Additional considerations for airport maintenance and operations
This Workshop is a forum that allows attendees to network with industry colleagues about common pavement maintenance challenges and addresses issues appropriate to both general aviation and air carrier airports.
All sessions will take place at the AAAE Conference Center, 601 Madison Street, Third Floor, Alexandria, VA 22314. The workshop will begin with a welcome reception, held in conjunction with the Airfield Construction Management Workshop, on Monday, September 25. Registration opens at noon on Tuesday, September 26, and ends at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27.
