Go behind the scenes at San Diego International Airport! Visit the unique California Least Tern habitat on the airfield and the runway’s Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS), which is designed to crush under the weight of an aircraft and provide runway overrun safety. Experience DAZZLE which is part of SAN’s extensive Arts program and the region’s largest, solar-powered public art installation featuring 2,100 e-paper tiles on the façade of the airport’s 2-million square-foot Rental Car Center. Attendees will also see the cutting-edge explosives detection baggage screening system, an innovative air conditioning condensate collection system, and the country’s largest airport USO. Finally, take in Terminal 2, the world’s first LEED Platinum-certified commercial air terminal which boasts sustainable features such as indoor, post-security pet relief area, convenient water-bottle refilling stations, low-flow fixtures and drought-tolerant landscaping, energy efficient lighting and a storm water pollution prevention system. Don’t forget to bring comfortable shoes and sunscreen!
