AAAE Aira Airport Network

Virtual Concierge for Blind and Low Vision Passengers

The AAAE-Aira Airport Network is a collaboration between AAAE and Aira created to make it easy and efficient for airports to offer the Aira service to their BLV community.

About Aira
Aira is an assistive service made possible through mobile technology, but brought to life by human interactions between users and remotely-located Aira agents. A camera embedded in a pair of smart glasses streams video to an agent’s computer dashboard, which also gives the agent access to GPS, Google Maps, and rideshare services. Using this technology, Aira agents immerse themselves into the user’s world and delivers objective visual information to enhance efficiency and engagement when completing tasks or navigating new environments.
How the Airport Network Works
The airport purchases a brick of minutes through the AAAE pool. Those minutes are available only to Aira users when at your airport. Each month the airport will receive a usage report and alerts when minutes drop to a threshold so you can maintain uninterrupted access.

  • Once a passenger enters the geofence, a custom SMS notification alerts your blind or low vision traveler that all Aira calls within the geofenced area are free because the airport is paying for those minutes.
  • A timer tracks how many Aira Access minutes are used in a call and the call is verified by the human Aira agent.
  • Your airport is charged $2.00 per minute for each session and Aira will send the airport a monthly usage report.
  • There is no technical or operational demand placed on your airport.

The Aira service is purchased in batches of minutes. The airport will pay the rates noted below and can choose to purchase an additional block of minutes once the initial block runs out. There is no long-term commitment.
  • Large Hub: $5,000 for 2,500 minutes
  • Medium Hub: $3,000 for 1,500 minutes
  • Small and Non Hub: $1,000 for 500 minutes
