CONCURRENT SESSION A: GA Activity – The Opposing Forces of the Economy and Pandemic

General aviation (GA) activity since the start of the pandemic has not followed the same path as commercial aviation, with many pockets of GA showing stability and even growing over the last year. While GA experienced big declines in April and May 2020, overall GA activity rebounded quickly in many markets, although it’s not consistent throughout the U.S. nor across all GA segments. There is typically a direct correlation between the economy and GA activity, but current activities are showing less of a tie. Whether these are near term or long-term trends is yet to be determined. The economic drivers, what fixed-base operators (FBOs) are seeing, and the front-line experience of airport professionals will be discussed during this session, along with their potential impact on future GA activity in a post-pandemic environment.
