Volunteer EVent

Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

We have partnered with the Tennessee Environmental Council to host a volunteer event on Saturday, April 27. Their Generate Some Buzz program seeks to carve out gardens to attract, feed, and nurture pollinating wildlife. Transportation to and from the event will be provided, as well as breakfast and lunch. All volunteers will also receive a t-shirt to wear at the event.

Where You'll Be:

Glengarry Elementary School, which is located very near to Nashville International Airport®. Their pollinator garden was just established earlier this year.

What You'll Do:

  • Remove the sod and remaining roots from the garden area
  • Shovel and transport soil with wheelbarrows into the pollinator habitat
  • Spread the soil with rakes
  • Plant native wildflower plugs into the garden
  • Collect litter and debris from the creek
  • Sort between recyclables and non-recyclables

Why It Matters:

Populations of many pollinator species like bees, butterflies, moths, beetles, and hummingbirds have been negatively impacted by agricultural practices such as using synthetic pesticides, disease and habitat loss. These creatures are experiencing a drastically different world compared to just a few decades ago.

Native pollinators depend on native plants to provide habitat and food, and plants need pollinators to help them reproduce. In fact, pollinators assist in the reproduction of 75% of flowering plants worldwide. THAT'S HUGE! So, if we turn our manicured lawns that provide little to nothing for pollinators into havens full of native flowers and wild grasses, we will effectively "Generate Some Buzz" and bring back these essential workers full force!
